What Is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated skin condition that causes skin cells to build up faster than normal, resulting in red, thickened, dry patches covered with silvery-white scales. It is a non-contagious condition that can affect different parts of the body, including the elbows, knees, scalp, lower back, and nails.
Psoriasis can cause itching, irritation, dryness, cracking, and discomfort. Symptoms may improve for a period and then return during flare-ups. Although psoriasis is a long-term condition, appropriate treatment and ongoing dermatological care can help control symptoms, reduce flare-ups, and improve skin health.
